State authorization: As an independent (private), not-for-profit institution, Â鶹ÊÓƵ is explicitly exempt from regulation by the and is therefore authorized to award degrees or certificates.

Religious affiliation: While Â鶹ÊÓƵ values its roots and honors its longstanding history, the university no longer has an affiliation with American Baptist Churches U.S.A., and there are no religious or doctrinal requirements for students or employees. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is an inclusive and welcoming academic community that values diversity in background, belief and perspective.

Structure of control: Â鶹ÊÓƵ is an independent, residential, coeducational, comprehensive university, with a strong focus on the liberal arts and sciences. The university is a nonprofit corporation chartered by the State of Oregon to provide educational services and is empowered to make policies and procedures for the governance of its corporate officers, faculty, students and staff. Along with the main campus in McMinnville, Â鶹ÊÓƵ maintains a campus in Portland and an eCampus for its Online and Continuing Education program.
